Hey everyone we are trying something new on kickstarter.  Its my first inventions that I have ever put on there.  I'm an avid cribbage player and love to play with my dad but not only does he have failing eye-site but he is losing mobility in his fingers.  As a result I created an electronic cribbage board that allows him to peg with the simple roll of the wheel.

In doing this project an offshoot of the design was a couple of decks of cards that will accompany the board.  We attempted to show old technology morphing into new technology to demonstrate how an old cribbage board has changed into a new one.  To do this one one side of the deck we have a normal face card and on the other side it morphs into something techy or futurist.

As experts in this field we would love to get you feedback!!  Please come and have a look at our campaign.

Cool!  I like how even the pips change from one side to the other.  Would love to see a pic of the back.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

There's a certain cool factor to the designs, to be sure.

I think making the indices different from side to side is a mistake.  Card players generally prefer a degree of uniformity to index designs in order to be quickly and easily understood, no thought processes required.  Pick one design and go with it.

I also think that from what I'm seeing with the kings, there's not enough differentiation with the faces.  For the "cyborg half", it's clear that all the faces were modeled from one face design.  On the bottom, the Kings of Clubs and Spades are identical, and the King of Hearts is the same face minus the facial hair.  The final "sin" is that all four kings are wearing exactly the same wardrobe.

I think your design would be more successful if you used standard courts for the "traditional" half and followed their variation when creating the top half.  It could mean the difference between a so-so design and a great one.

If you have further questions, please note that I'm a consultant for playing card designers and one of my specialties is improving a deck's functionality.  A designer can make a pretty deck, but with my help they can make a pretty damn good deck that people will use more often.
