  • I like birds.

  • Kickstarter:
Pass. It's another case of minimal design gone too far.

Also, I can't figure for the life of me why the designer would want the Bicycle brand. It just seems pointless on this deck.

What gets me is that it is called "flat" but those court cards have depth to them.

Flat design is just referring to a type of minimalist design. It uses a lot of basic shapes, and doesn't use any textures or gradients. It can have perspective/depth, though.

I've seen flat design before but everything that I have seen usually has 0 depth to it.  Even the picture you showed really didn't have much depth since the shadow (at least to me) appeared to be very off.

Agreed.

It's likely named as a Bicycle deck because they still think the Bicycle brand name alone will boost sales from rabid collectors clamoring for Bicycle decks no matter how terrible.  Unfortunately for this creator, the collectors have mostly been cured of their rabies and are fed up with inferior decks bearing the Bicycle brand.  Budgetary concerns have led many of them to separate the wheat from the chaff in the cavalcade of decks being dumped on the market, even their beloved Bicycle decks.

The box is the first thing I saw and immediately I thought Oh my, wow, color, I love it, I must have it. Then to scroll down and bear witness to the muted, bland, sadness of the limited color palette. I feel like the rainbows and unicorns are gone, but somehow I will go on.

I'm thinking of this "flat design" deck as being the playing card equivalent of flat soda...  No one loves a flat soda...
