Is this a redoing of an older KS? I feel like this deck was already part of a KS campaign.

I believe this is what you are talking about

CELTIC INSPIRED: DESIGNED PLAYING CARDS

This from the same company also doing the TECH SKULLS: Playing Cards, which is still live.   :-\
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

In some areas it's an improvement.  But in others, it's more of a downgrade.

Old Deck vs. New Deck

Generic back - Celtic-inspired design

No English, all Celtic - Celtic and English

Clean design - Hopelessly cluttered

Showed proper quantity of Celtic-inspired pips - shows a single Celt-esque pip in the center with a number (WTF?)

Then there's the biggest problem of all - even in the Republic of Ireland the Celtic language is nearly dead, with fewer and fewer speakers learning it from birth by the year.  I have to say, when hankering for a pack of cards to play a little solitaire or a few rounds of poker with the guys, the furthest thing from my mind is "Gee, we should get a pack of cards that's partially printed in a dead language that no one at my table knows, including myself...because it's so much uglier than my plain ol' USPC standard faces..."

A successful deck has an audience that wants it, whether they knew it before or not.  The designer sees a potential demand and creates a design that will fill that demand.  This deck is looking for an audience and has managed to trim its potential customers to a very short list - a smattering of language professors and the natives of a few remote regions of Ireland that don't interact a lot with the rest of the world...

People do still learn Gaelic - but they also still learn Latin and Ancient Greek.  It doesn't make any of those languages any livelier than the others on the list because of the really tiny numbers of native speakers who've been learning Gaelic as their primary language almost from birth.  It used to be that all the road signs were in English and Gaelic to accommodate the Gaelic-speaking population - now it's more because it's quaint and the tourists like it.  The language was almost commonly used in the early 1960s but its decline from that peak was swift and sure.

Here's a few pix of Irish [Celtic] Playing Crdas done in stone lithography in the 1920's and designed by Irish artists of the period. The deck is quite beautiful and relatively scarce. There is a similar deck produced by Charles Goodall of England around the same time.

I like those.  It would be awesome to see someone be able to reprint some of these old decks.

Indeed, Tom - Ireland is rich in history; why doesn't the designer put some of it in the court cards on this deck?  Because what's there now is as dull as the day is long.

I am confused about the court cards, the king and queen both have crowns and the jack is, well something else. Not a lot of continuity. Anyone know?

Well, the King's crown has "spines" that go up and out from the band, then curl back in and down, like the "traditional" crown seen in chess piece iconography.  The Queen's crown has spines that go up and out, then up and in, like the spires in St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow (see attached).  The Jack is...well...I don't know what that mess is...

Thanks for asking that Rose - I was trying to locate, in my mind, St. Basil's in my favorite country - Ireland!

He does indicate a stretch goal at $12K of Bicycle branding and USPC manufacture.  Considering that he's very upfront about it, only someone foolish enough to not read the project would be deceived.

Regardless, it's still not a great project, and aging hasn't helped the aroma...

Has anyone heard or seen anything out of this guy? I think he took my $7 and bought lunch. >:(
Part of my Collection updated infrequently but occasionally, when I remember. (I haven't in months.)

You may be right.  They haven't published an update since early August, but the backer comments are continuous and talk about how they were ripped off.

One guy who commented, Mike Konwinski, proposed an elegant way to handle the problem, which seems to have worked.  He posted this on October 30th.

My Kick Starter method of payment, for my pledges, are made through my Amazon Payments account. My Amazon Payments account charges a credit card, that I have on file, when my pledges are submitted. The account that ultimately funds the pledge is my credit card on file with Amazon Payments. First, I filed a loss claim with Amazon Payments stating that the product I was to receive for pledging was never received. I made the same claim with my credit card company (Citi Bank) which was used to fund my pledge. Citi Bank refunded my loss amount. Ultimately, as Kick Starter supporters, we are paying money (our pledge) for a product (the "reward" we should receive for our pledge). File a loss claim with your credit card companies the worst that could happen is that your claim is denied.
