I really like this deck unfortunately I think the Cardlauncher branding on the ace breaks the narrative of the deck. I would rather see it have a custom ace that goes with the theme and and then brand Cardlauncher using banners or text like most Ace of Spades. The Ace of Spades would be the place to really play up the No. 17 element of the deck rather than just the Joker.

What's the deal with card launcher?  What is going to make it different/better than kickstarter?

LOVE this deck, looks awesome.

Well it is a promo deck (given to every 25th new member) for Cardlauncher, which has a spade in the logo.  I can see why it was chosen to be on the AoS, but agree it looks a bit weird there since the design is different.  Plenty of other decks use the AoS for logo so it kinda works.  There will be a v2 though in the future so hopefully that will have a more fitting design.

What's the deal with card launcher?  What is going to make it different/better than kickstarter?

"Subscribe here for notification 2 days before CardLauncher
opens: 12:01AM EDT (New York City) time on August 15th
Don't be late: every 25th new backer gets a free rare deck!
Be the first to use exclusive "Backer Cart"®, "multi rewards selector"® technologies also "True Shipping+Handling"®
and an industry first: "Guaranteed Rewards Delivery"®"

We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out, but from what I've heard the main thing is they focus on card projects and really help the designer along with way, making connections with printers/fulfillment and guidance to increase chance of success and rewards delivery.

The short version...

PROS: focused on cards, uses escrow accounts to insure deck projects get completed (or funds get returned, if the creator flakes out).

CONS: focused on cards, won't get the casual traffic that Kickstarter gets.

Yes, it's a pro and a con.  The site is catering specifically to card designers to meet their needs, but the most successful Kickstarter decks don't succeed on collectors alone.  Jackson himself mentioned in another topic that 40% of his buyers are collectors, leaving the remaining 60% to people who discovered his deck by reading an article, performing a search, serendipity, etc.

Even for a promo deck, I don't think the "card launcher" on the AoS really fits. Maybe if it wasn't the main focus of the ace, or if the deck's theme was completely based on the website. The problem is that it's still a gorgeous deck that stands alone without the relation to Card Launcher, so branding the most significant card of the deck with it just seems strange. The fact that the name is also absent from the box makes it even more out of place.

As for Card Launcher, I'm not very confident in it's success. King's Wild Funded and Deckstarter were both formed by designers with HUGE reputations. After just 2 decks (Amazing decks, but still only 2) I'm not sure that he has a big enough following to get the website off the ground. The deck certainly is good bait, but I have no clue if it will be enough.

Hopefully this will also be available for resale eventually. I love the design.

I believe they have other decks and designers lined up for funding.

This is a beautiful deck.

Shame it's MPC. MPC has it's place but not for something like this.

I barely buy Kickstarter Decks but Card Launcher, I'm going to give it some time to see how well it works before I consider buying anything from it. I would love to hear a review from anyone using it.

I agree. There is a pro and a con. I wish I had the time to put together my own list.

This promo deck from MPC will not be a campaign.  It will be given away to every 25th person who registers at CardLauncher and backs a project (of his/her choice) without cancelling. The back design of the card actually has CardLauncher in small letters.  Other projects are lined up to go live on opening day.

I think the court cards look a bit skinny, but that's my opinion.

That would certainly help the launch.

Any idea who's on board?

Being a promotional deck, I don't mind it being from MPC. I'm assuming V.02 will be made by EPCC or USPCC

This is from the CardLauncher Facebook page:

I figure since I am the only one in the world other than the artist to ever hold one of Lorenzo's N°17 decks, I might as well enjoy it. The latest MPC 310gsm French casino black core bond paper with linen finish is just superb! Handles perfectly right out of the box, once you sever the CardLauncher hologo 3D seal and examine this very fine deck. Perfect alignment, absolutely no registration drift, it's just not possible, color faithful to Pantone Matching System + CMYK. The decks will be available if you don't win one on August 15th by pledging one of our premier decks campaigns about the 20th in VERY limited quantity, one (or both) per backer, and you must support one of the first four project campaigns to be eligible.

Four campaigns have been announced: Two "premier" decks, and two new artist decks: Lotrek will launch his Dark Venexiana decks, Gambler's Warehouse their Brimstone II, Giovanni Maroni his Good deck (Good & Evil, right?) so you can complete your Gio set, and Phil DeCosta with his Can-eh-diana deck will possibly be joined by one more, but I think the rest can wait until August 30th or September 14th.

New decks waves come 15 days apart on CardLauncher the first six weeks to give both the artists and the pledge backers a little breathing room. I will let them launch naturally after that, but perhaps every other Sunday day is a good? Maybe alternate Saturdays instead? What does everyone prefer? Natural chaos or controlled perfect mix? Alternate Saturdays, Sundays?

Eli Retschlag contributes his v1 of Scarlet Pearl "Radical 80's Throwback" deck. Another homage to times gone by from this Australian cardist and magician from Golden Beach, Queensland. Come watch his incredible card handling skills in one of our premier "sliders" on the website beginning August 15th at 12:01AM EDT / NYC time as we celebrate liberation from fraudulent projects forever and give away these two fabulous decks to each 25th new registrant who backs a deck in the first 24 hours. The first 30 winners receive both!

If it's as busy as we project, we'll make it 24 hours after registering, but we prepared for global demand by hosting on Amazon Cloud Services computing, and 1000 users at once won't even slow it down. We're ready with 100+ PoPs (Points of Presence) around the world with just over 50% in the US with clustered failsafe systems in all major cities and Canada. Another 45 around the world and growing weekly.

We re-engineered Crowd Funding for Playing Card Decks project campaigns, and creators and backers alike will be pleasantly surprised that we literally thought of everything "wrong" and fixed it or wrote new paradigm shifts to revolutionize the industry.

Come, join us, and never pay too much for shipping again. True Shipping+handling is built into our Backer Cart and the Multi Rewards Selector lets you customize every single way, each pledge just for you, and S&H for US, Canada or overseas shows exactly what you will pay.

The MPC angle is interesting. After their KS, they pledged to upgrade their equipment in an effort to approach the quality of USPCC decks. I wonder if this deck is a fruit of those labors, or if those upgrades are still in the works?
