Whoa, the graphics on the box of the "training deck" makes me wish there was a traditional deck to match! Not sure how/if that would work. I don't usually like yellow but on this I love it.

To be more precise, it's used for cardistry TRAINING.  But cardists differ on how useful these "slabs" are because of the difference in weight when compared to cards - it gives you different muscle memory than what's required.

I never understood the appeal behind training decks.

You can just use masking tape to create blocks of cards out of a normal deck. That way, you have a better feel for the friction of the cards, texture of the edges, and weight of the packets. Plus, you an use any deck.

The appeal - if you can call it that - is that some cardists are starting to use these things not as trainers but as card substitutes when performing.  They look flashier and catch the eye, despite the fact that as "common, everyday, household objects" they don't exactly fit the bill as well as playing cards do.  I find it more amazing to take something mundane and make it flashy than to take something that's already flashy and make it flashy.

True, that.

Plus, these things can't do nearly as many things as normal cards. I highly doubt that there's any deck of these that can match the flair of a spring or a great fan.

Do bear in mind that Josh Jay did make a deck consisting of a stack of flexible plastic cards...  :))

Well, of course - they didn't show us the lucky stars, moons, balloons and horseshoes!  Did I leave any of the charms out?

I don't know Don.  This a current Kickstarter now.  It seems the plastic cards are a new type of "Fluff" item.

This is part of the Lux Kickstarter and should be merged with that thread  in Plethora

I think he was talking about the cardistry training decks. Both the Lux deck and the trainers are in the same project.
