I thought I'd be able to snag one for $220... and within a split second of the button appearing, I stabbed it... and everything less than 400 bucks was snapped up.

Some people out there are clearly faster than the speed of light! Lol

Check out Lee Asher twitter, there is a guy who tweet it a picture with the $50 tier but he said he released it. I was able to buy one at the 3 tier price i would like to think i kinda luck out to considering the prices of JN in today's market. My theory regarding how the low tiers where gone in a blink of an eye, it must of been like a lottery , Because i assume a lot ppl click the link as soon as it change. Very Happy to finally owned one. I gotta take my hat off to Mr Lee Asher not once did i see the website lag or crash  the transaction went really smooth.

I'm pretty sure the way it worked was 50 people would be locked in to one tier at a time. So the guy who tweeted the pic had 49 others in the same situation. Maybe someone can correct me on this?
Why would someone release at $50? Don't understand that.

I guess I owe my gratitude to Se Wen Loong, so thanks mate! He said he already owns a pair of the decks; incredibly generous of him nonetheless.

I suspect that you distance from your ISP's CO and your ping rate play a big factor in when the button appears and what place you get. If you're pulling less than 10ms ping because you are less than a mile of fiber away from the CO without a network relay you are going to see that button before anyone else. Mouse clicking dex still matters, but some people have an edge they may not even realize. It makes more sense to me that I got it because someone else was being kind than I am just that fast with my mediocre internet.

On Lee's end, all that happens is that the server takes the first 50 requests in sequential order, at which point buyers had up to three minutes to complete the purchase.  Anyone who failed to finish in time or emptied their cart put that deck back in circulation and the very next click after that occurred locked that deck into that person's cart for another three-minute cycle.  'Round and 'round she goes until all fifty are finally purchased.

Being one of those early clickers takes perhaps a little skill and good fortune regarding being close to a central office (CO), but there's way too many semi-random events that can occur that can result in getting a shot or not - too many to even consider counting.  You could be IN the CO, but your message gets incorrectly routed the long way to J-Nugg Land.  A slower guy with a slower connection suddenly gets a chance.  Or perhaps the slow guy clicks in at the very moment someone releases (by accident of timing or with intent) their deck from their cart.  All sorts of events on the network can occur.

Funny you say that Don, I work for a CLEC and for shits and grins had some of my guys all run network tests from inside a CO to track the packets and see what paths they would take and if they would error. We got some wild results (in the context that telecom data results can be wild) even to the point of one of my guys getting redirected to a completely separate CO, which is not supposed to happen.

I just got lucky to click when I did when See Wen Loong dropped his $50 back in. But that said, I did my clicking from work because I knew I would have a better shot at the prize.
