Playing cards Sunrise

Here is a new deck I am working on.
New deck Sunrise is dedicated to Japan.
What's your opinion?

I like the Queen of Spades... The vibrant colors are more appealing to the eye.
Are you using the same pips as your Arcanum deck?  Speaking of which, what is the status on that deck?

Diggin those back options! The first one is my favorite. Have you considered making the Koi orange/reddish? It could give the back a lot of good "pop" for lack of a better word.

The art's pretty good - but I'd ditch the gray background; it's not doing your art any favors, making it look a little dingy.  I'd go for a nice cream color, like the color of scroll paper, or just a simple white.

Background for the ladies. Which is better?

Not big on the outlines or the indices in all 4 corners but I like the background color of the first picture.
 EDIT: Maybe you could use the imagery from the second pic with the lighter cream color from the first.

I like the fourth background the most, it most reflects a traditional Japanese painted scroll or sumi-e ink wash painting

The boxes around the indices are very distracting. Maybe if you removed them and the indices in the top right and bottom left corners then you could invert the lamps into those corners.  That way all of your artwork would be visible with a cleaner look. JMO

I like the woven lines boxing in the indices, maybe not in blue, and I'm not a fan of the red border. I still feel like the fourth of the original four backgrounds is the strongest choice, I like the faded design that looks like an ink wash, it makes the background compliment the geisha more because it is subtle, instead of busting the image with a second focus. Traditional landscape images like rocky hills and trees could look great!

I think the current design looks OK, but you need to know two things.

1) If you're target audience is in the US, ditch the extra indices.  Some people fervently hate four-index decks, actively avoiding them.  The added indices increase the chances that you might accidentally flash a card from your hand to your opponent.

2) Your indices on the bottom half are fine, but the ones on the top half are flipped - the "tail" of the Q is pointing in the wrong direction.

Have to agree.  Boxes around the courts are fine, but boxes around the indices just means the indices are further away from the edge.  The 4 backgrounds are fine.  Maybe you just made the 4 backgrounds for the 4 suits.  That could also be part of your theme to tie in the non-tradictional courts...

I wouldn't worry too much about the background.  There's enough contrast in there to make them visible and it's fairly muted when compared to the vivid colors in the Queen and her regalia.

- The Queen of Hearts is very similar to the Queen of Spades;
- New backgrounds are fussy;
- Backs? #2 from the first reveal of them, but with white borders;
- Agree about lines around indices.

@vovkalex - Nice card, but it has flaws.  It looks like you have gone as far as you can on the top and bottom, but you can still go a little farther on the right and left.  You need to get the indices as close as possible to the edge.  You also need a suit indicator.  It going to be hard to distinguish the card at a distance especially if you are using non-tradictional courts.  Be careful, you need probably 51% black for your custom pip spade.  It looks like your custom pip is probably 40% black.

It's an improvement but you need to do something about the indices.  Placement is good, but they're black and white printed on a background that's also black and white.  Wipe off that background under the index and you should have a better looking card.  Think of using an alternate font, as well - that "faux Oriental" font is kind of passe and borderline racist, I would think - anything elegant, narrow and sans serif would work with the style as well as being more clear and readable.  It's also worth considering to place a suit symbol next to the lady's head, like you would see on a traditional court card.  In fact, you should use a plainer spade in the index and save the fancy spade for the body of the card.
