Hate to be "that guy", Rob - but shouldn't the Hive 2 deck have its own thread as they are separate from the first edition albeit part of the same series? ;)
Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

I leave that up to Don. We've been kind of bunching series together.
What do you think Don. If it is a new KS project for a Deck in a series, make a new topic. If it is a restart of a failed project, combine with the old?

This is not a restart. The original deck sold-out. This is a new deck.

Sorry for any confusion. My question to Don was a general one, about all projects.

Sorry, I haven't had much presence as I've been busy finish up this deck. It's about 98% done as of today. Just minor details left.

As Marcus, kindly said, it's another deck. Different from the first two decks, but it's within the same series. I decided to continue with the Hive name as a way for me to work on re-imagining playing cards without needing a more narrower theme. Like before, I've been inspired by a lot of classic designs and European playing cards.

It would be one thing if it was just a recolor of the first deck or something similarly near-identical - like a new color of Artifice or Monarchs.  But this looks to be something wholly new and as such deserves a topic of its own.  I'd say Brendan is using the familiar name for name-brand recognition more than anything else, similar to what was stated in the post before mine.

Hey everyone!

For those interested, the deck will go live on Kings Wild Funded @ noon central this Saturday (17th of January). I'll post a link then.

Stay tune to the Kings Wild Facebook page as we'll be posting more images of the deck leading up the crowdfunding release date.

Brendan,

From the AoS and the KoC as well as the back pics on FB it looks like you've dialed-back the color gradients, at least compared to the first Hive deck. Is that solely an artistic decision, or does it have to do with production?

It's solely an artistic/creative decision. I wanted to switch rendering styles this time around to avoid the deck feeling like version 1.1 kind of thing or the deck feeling repetitive. I've seen sometimes how repetition of rendering style can get boring sometimes and I really wanted to avoid that.

EPCC did a great job printing things for Hive 1 and honestly, the textures and gradients came out amazingly. I'm surprise at how well it came out. I'd definitely love to create another deck in that style again in the future.

Gotta say, based upon what little I've seen so far, I like the court art better this time around than the first time around. Don't get me wrong; the first deck had an interesting style to it. But this one, so far, calls to me more. Depending upon price point, I'll likely be going in on a pair.

There are no 3's in rousselle. There are, however, two s's, two l's, two e's (but not in a row), an r, an o, and a u.

I agree that EPCC did a wonderful job. Could USPCC have done as well?

The original Hive deck reminds me of Maurice Sendak's art. At first I thought the cards were hand drawn and colored until I realized the pips were uniform.

I pulled out the blue Hive deck to show my in-laws a week ago, and my high-school age nephew-in-law's eye were glued to the face cards. That deck did not make it back home with me.

Anyways, while I'm sure that Hive 2 will be fantastic, I'm looking forward to a different theme with the textures and gradient. Maybe something inspired by Grimm's fairy tales?

I want to stress these are renderings, but we're going to try as hard as possible to ensure the real product looks as amazing. The Green tuck is the standard edition while the Black and Gold is the limited edition.

That limited edition deck (both the cards and the tuck) look freakin' awesome!!

Pretty much guaranteed to sell out. Great stuff :D
With this signature I'm following the example set by Fes: There is only ONE letter L in my display name. "Holly" is a female name... and I'm a bearded guy who's into weightlifting. There's nothing feminine about me brother!

Easily, these are going to go fast I think. I'll be all over them anyway. :))

I got in with the 4 deck combo ($56 pledge tier).

If I missed out on backing this campaign, then I know I'd probably look back at this day and end up extracting my own teeth in anger... with a hammer and pliers... and without any form of anaesthetic.

In simple terms, for me this was a "must buy". I'm taking it for granted that the funding goal will be reached, and so I'm looking forward to receiving the decks :D

With as quickly as these are being gobbled up on kings wild funded, I can't help but wonder how big these would explode on KS with the much larger audience there. Not quite two hours in and they're already past the $10,000 mark. It's great to see so much love being shown to Brendans work. Much deserved, these decks are full of character. Hive, they're the Bees knees, haha.

haha, I'm right there with you. I wanted them when I saw the delicious minty green. The black and gold LE's changed everything for me in an instant. Not just the nifty tuck mind you, the golden card back. Did NOT see that coming at all, even though it made and makes perfect sense haha. I think these are going to be wonderful. I should "must be having a snooze." Instead I'm "haha, look what I have coming!" excited and happy. These are one of those joyful reminders of why and how much I love this hobby. Obsessing over decks of cards, one of my favorite past times.

ordered one LE deck...I had trouble getting my card info to go through early in the process but it finally worked.  Also I wish there was a way to manage my pledge in case I change my mind.  Anyone know if you can do that?
