If he took pre-orders, there would be no real sale! They'd be gone in a minute!

And how is that a bad thing?  It would be a lot of work, but it would also cut out the middlemen at KS, Amazon and the IRS!

That is true. Alex, you should skip Kickstarter and just to a pre-release instead of kickstarter. The decks are sure to sell out fast and you wouldn't get that 10% taken out.

Although I feel that could get a little messy. Kickstarter gives some great structure and it also can be huge in helping to get the word out for the company and for the website!! Sure he'll be successful either way but by using Kickstarter he'll be rich in both finances and company.

The big advantage provided by Kickstarter is the exposure to people who otherwise might not know his decks from a hole in the wall.  If he does hit that critical-mass level where he's got enough people in the know, then he can ditch Kickstarter.  He might or might not have it going into the Harlequin deck, but if that's a big-enough smash, he'll probably have it by the time he goes to do his "gambler's Bee deck" project.

By using Kickstarter for Vortex, I managed to bring in loads of people who never thought twice about cards into the hobby. My goal is to do that once again. The industry can't sustain itself if it's the same 10,000 people buying the products. We need to grow and expand and KS offers a great gateway to a new demographic.

Yeah the 10% really gets you in the end but I think an influx of new members would be great, don't you?

Couldn't hurt - except when trying to buy short-run limited-edition decks!  :))

But imagine when you reach the level of the Buck Twins or Blue Crown, perhaps even Ellusionist in terms of your decks' popularity.  If you hit a goal that lofty, you could generate more sales without resorting to Kickstarter.  That's what I'm talking about.

I don't know if this question has been asked yet, but why such a small print?
If you made another 5,000 deck print, it would still be a home run!

It is because of the experimental finish he is using.

My experience so far has been like Alex: Kickstarter brings in a HUGE number of people that might not find you in any other way. I will have a large mailing list of interested people now, thanks to Kickstarter. I may use KS on the next deck at a small goal simply to draw in traffic I might not get otherwise. I plan to fund the next one myself if at all possible so that it's just easier to manage but there is something great about KS and how they can expose your project to new folks.

I've had so many "casual" buyers that i needed to add new 1 and 2 deck rewards to accommodate those people that continually are flowing in from around the net. Sure, the latecomers will have to pay a bit more but I'll be able to capture some of those people instead of having them just float away and disappear. Having hundreds and hundreds of new people interested in your stuff is just super valuable.

He's still mad over the trashing reviews I gave his first decks. I remember when Rob was working with Aether, he send a peace offering to De'vo and he sent back an email cursing us out. It's amusing.

Haha good stuff. I would take the Harlequins or Vortex over a blades deck any day! De'vo seems like such a professional guy. Class act  ::)

Seems to me like De'vo might be a little jealous of these cards  :P . Honestly I've heard some great things about the handling on the blades which is the only reason I want to get some, but the way De'vo acts makes me REALLY not want to give him any business. Back on topic though, after seeing the back design for the Harlequin I'm really eager to get some of these! I just hope they don't sell out too fast. I love what you're doing with the border as well Alex.

Hey guys, an update on quantity. I'm making sure no one goes without a deck on this one.

While the print run is still limited to 2.5k, I am setting up a few unlimited bundles. You can purchase one and two deck bundles with no limit, while all the others are limited. This means that the cards will stay rare, but those of you who only buy a couple decks don't get shafted by resellers and big-time collectors. The bundles are a tad more pricey (cost per deck drops very quickly after two decks) but it should help everyone out in the long run.

I expect  to sell over 2,000 as a result of the limited bundles, so we're looking at about 2,200-400 in the hands of the public for this one.

Cost per deck if you buy a brick is only $7. It gets even cheaper after that. Six decks is about $8 per deck. One deck will be $10, and two decks will be $9 each.

MSRP for the deck will be $10 like the Vortex deck.

I will probably buy 3 like I do most decks so $9 each isn`t bad. I think it is better for more people to get them than a few resellers buy all of them and sell them for 3X that.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Sounds good to me! I'll probably be able to get 3 or 6 decks.
