I'm not sure that having your friends as the courts will excite all that many backers? I'm also not all that convinced about the strength of the link between architecture, the compass and the vitruvian man? This one isn't for me I don't think but all the best with the campaign.

PREVIEW LINK

I will be adding/deleting things and changing designs but this gives a pretty good idea on what it will be like. Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks,

Jared Hansen

I'd love to comment, but the link is broken and I don't see the project...

The Architect - June 1st

The Architect is more about creating from inspiration than anything .. A lot of people have asked me about why I went with personalized court cards, vs traditional generic faces and why Da Vinci and Dali ....

It's all about inspiration and the people in my court cards inspire me. Da Vinci and Dali, while not architects.. they inspire me. When you design anything, you need to be inspired .I felt that elements in architecture captured design with purpose beautifully, since architecture is essentially a design with a purpose but also embodies precision and detail, much like playing cards. It all just fit perfectly with my idea of what I wanted to share with the world. As I design my own legacy within my own space and communities, I want to share something of value and to me these cards represent reminders to live by design and for your passion.

The cards are not The Architect ... You are

I think this was said before - it's great that these people provided you inspiration, but your choices of people to appear on the courts and jokers might be just a little too personal.  You'll get it, but most people won't, even after you explain it to them.  It might be different if the people chosen were famous architects, but you have a lot of magicians in there as well as Salvador Dali - not known for either his magic or his architecture!

You might be reaching a bit with some of your reward offers.  T-shirt: cool; card clips: cool; AIP bottles: cool.  Key-shaped USB drives?  A pen with a hidden USB drive?  Say wha?  You don't even list how large the storage capacity is on them!

I do give you kudos for offering the decks at very reasonable prices, compared to the rest of the market.

A pair of comparisons you'll hear a lot, so get used to them now:

1. The deck back looks like a Tally Ho Circle Back, and a lot like Jackson Robinson's recent TH decks, Scarlett and Emerald.

2. There's already been a really cool architecture-themed deck on KS: Bicycle Revision 1, the one successfully-produced deck by Adam Clarkson.  (Circle City Card Co.'s assets are now the property of Gambler's Warehouse, so there's a good chance they have Adam's design.)  That's not to say there isn't room for more out there, but it is to say that if you want to gain attention for yours, you'll need to make it better than what came before it.

"Risks and Challenges" mentions "EPPC" when I think you meant "EPCC"...

I STRONGLY recommend you don't include your email address on your project home page.  You will get so much spam and junk mail you won't know what's legit mail and what's garbage anymore.  People can reach you easily enough by commenting to your KS account.

I appreciate the feedback Don. Thanks :)

I didn't realize there was already an architecture deck out there. I get the tally ho thing already.. so.. lol.. it's all good. I can promise this was built from the ground up with no intention to look like a Tally Ho or any other for that matter but not to insult people's intelligence I can surely see the familiar elements that are there.

Rewards .. yea.. I am working on cutting back at the moment..

As far as the courts.. to each their own.. you will either love it or not love it I guess.

Yes. .I meant EPCC.. whoops :)

Thank you again :)

  • Charm gets you quite far. Guile gets you the rest.
I absolutely LOVE the card back. Everything else falls short. I really like that you are trying to incorporate ideas and people that inspire you, but maybe call the deck the 'Inspiration Deck' and not 'The Architect'.
I would love to see more drafting design elements like I see the back as being, a draft of an architectural element. DaVinci's Goro, Dali and your friends don't make sense with the theme of the deck and really bring an otherwise promising theme to it's knees.

I think you have two really great, and really disparate designs here that could really shine if you weren't trying to marry them.
Kickstarter completely revolutionized the way I waste money.

The people who handle playing cards are always in a world of delicate fingertip technology.
