Today's question:

What would you do if you won the lottery? Cliche, maybe, but let's make things original. What if you won 100 million dollars, but had only 24 hours to spend it, and whatever you didn't spend was burned - what would you buy?

Would you maximize profit by making a simple order of, say, 5,000 cars, or buy awesome things you'll never be able to again?

With $100 million, I'd buy just straight up gold.

But let's make things interesting...

If that wasn't an option, I'd buy stocks in Apple, since they just got cheaper.

But lets make things more interesting...

If that wasn't an option I'd buy a DeLorean like the one in back to the future...screw it, I'll buy THE DeLorean used in the movie.

Secondly I'd buy a ton of cards. I'd buy bricks upon bricks of White Cents., Black Bee Stingers, Jerry's, and Brown Wynns.

Thirdly, I would buy autographs. I'd get a 1927 Yankees signed team ball, an autographed team ball from every "World Series" and All-Star game ball, and I'd get an autograph of my favorite player if all time; Kirby Puckett.

I would buy Phillies full season tickets. Right now I only have partial season tickets but with this, I'd get the full seaon, plus post season tickets.

Speaking of tickets, I would buy other types of tickets. I would get back-stage passes to see Penn & Teller, ELO, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Fratellis, "Weird Al", U2, Coldplay and much much more. Now I know what you're thinking; ELO doesn't perform any more. I have $100 million though. It'd be hard for them to refuse. Actually forget the tickets, they will preform at my house in my room.

I'd buy memorabilia from all my favorite celebrities. A suit Elvis wore? Why not? Michael Jackson's glove? Of course! A copy of "The White Album" signed by all The Beatles? That'd be nice. A concept drawing of Mickey Mouse? I think you see my point.

Lastly, I'd go to an Apple store. I would build the best and fastest freaking computer you've ever seen, and I'd get all the bells and whistles too. I'd also buy like 50 iPads, 100 iPods, $500 headphones, and some iPhones (All at maximum capacity of course).

And um... I'd go sky-diving.

That is what I would do with $100 million dollars.

I'd buy the highest CGC grade available for these comics:  Action comics #1, Detective Comics #27, Amazing Fantasy #15, Giant Size X-Men #1, The Uncanny X-Men #94, and The Incredible Hulk #181.  I'd also get a 1 Penny Magenta stamp and the Upside Down Jenny stamp.  In addition, I'd get a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel.  After that, I'd buy a brick of every different deck of playing cards that exists, custom or regular.  With the remaining money, I'd set up a school for females only and it would be devoted to magic and sleight of hand and teaching girls and women from all over the world how to become professional magicians.

First of all I would buy a lot of white centurions, Jerry's, brown wynns, all theory11 and ellusionist decks and every limited edition/rare decks.
Of course I would buy everything my family or friends need or want and a huge house with swimming pool and garden.
I also would print my own custom deck and would give them away for free to everyone who wants one.
Then I would fly to Africa and would help as much people as I could. I would give them food and would build schools and houses for everyone.
If there is any money left I would fly to Hogwarts and become the principal ;D

Wow, 100 million dollar in 24 hours eh? hmm..

There would be a few instant purchases, such as house, a car and paying off my tuition fees. I would also cover the rest of the mortgage on my parents house. My main goal would be to invest smartly and that way it would allow me to be financially stable for the rest of my life. I would hope that my social life would stay fairly similar because I like how it is now and I would hope my friends would not treat me any differently. I would try to live my life the roughly the same as I do now, remain down to earth and not allow the money to go to my head.

.... I might by a Cage Garden set... :)

Property and gold.  Set for life, man.  That's the problem; even with 24 hours, you'd be absolutely insane to blow it; just buy valuable stuff.  What if whatever you bought was taken away after 24 hours?  I think I'd get some impossibly expensive whiskey, then it gets taken back = no hangover.   8)

You can Ireland, where whiskey comes from.  I'm pretty sure $1000000000 would cover the flight.

A statistician at a lecture told me that if you buy the ticket 3 hours before the draw, regardless of your circumstances, you're more likely to die before the draw than win.

I've heard that rumor before also. I also heard of a guy who once returned a lottery ticket where he got choose the numbers (which I didn't know was possible) and those ended up being the winning numbers.

I would purchase as much expensive property and high-end cars as I could within New York State, paying the money into an escrow account.  New York State law has a provision where you have 72 hours to reconsider a major purchase such as a car or real estate, during which you may cancel the sale.  In fact, the easiest thing to do would be to simply buy up the inventory of a big car dealership dealing in very expensive cars.  I can think of two right off the top of my head, more if I had more time.  Property purchases would likely be too time-consuming to be completed in the necessary time.  If needed to protect the money, I'd hire a lawyer to set up an escrow account for the purchases and drop all the cash there - in effect, "spending" it all.

John B. what's the the resurrecting of ancient topics?

I've noticed that as well.  Perhaps he's bored while drinking alone...  :))  I never mind people breathing new life into old topics, personally - it makes the board a bit livelier.

well I want to get Don the badge everyone loves raymond which requires one person to like 155 of your post. so I found a glitch that would let me keep giving him a like without waiting an hour, so I was going to old threads to do it once I hit the new ones. then the glitch stopped and I was reminiscing.

Actually, the requirement is this: "Have someone love your posts 155 times."

That's not one person liking my posts 155 times.  That's a total of 155 likes over time, from as many as 155 different people or as few as one.  And for that, I already qualify.  Alex!

OOI, I look around to find out how Rep works.

I had 15 rep at one point, then about an hour later I had my current score of '1'.

Did that many people really hate some of my posts in such a short length of time, or is it a glitch?

You've been voted down.  I think it's still in the system that repeatedly voting a person up or down will have a negative impact on the rep of the voter.  Don't say ANYTHING ELSE about it - one guy who did ended up with a rep in the negative triple-digits!  People were just doing it for sport back then...
