Hey, for some reason page 2 on the other 'Slick Deck' forum froze on my computer so here's the new one :).

I've been working on the back for a while now and I think I'm pretty much happy with it but let me know what you think.

The eye in the corner is so when players hold their cards it will look like the eye is sneaking a peak at the card in front of it.

I've also completed a couple more court cards.

All feedback welcome and here's a link to the old forum: http://www.playingcardforum.com/index.php?topic=8557.0

I would suggest renaming this Deck the Keyline Deck. The Art looks a lot like an Illustrator file in Keyline (outline) mode, and I think it would go over better than the current name. When paired with your screenname, Oily Swinyard, the Slick name gives off the impression that it will be an Oil Slick themed design.

Thanks, Randy

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

It's not Oily.  It's Olly - as in Molly minus the M.  I believe it's usually short for Oliver.

Im not sure if that mistake is gonna be an issue. My name is Olly and I'm not sure there's gonna be much association made with Oil Slicks, especially as if/when the deck is made I'm not going to have my name printed on the front of the tuck box.

The 'Slick' name refers to the smooth feel of the playing cards. Its not a final name but I'm afraid 'Keyline' doesn't really work for me as I think of hills when I think of Keyline which doesn't fit with the deck.

I'm actually in agreement in that "Slick Deck" doesn't evoke this kind of imagery at all.  Perhaps a name more closely associated with lines?  "Linear Playing Cards" or something more creative to that effect?  Perhaps "Silver Lining," if you get the linework done with some silver metallic ink or foil.

Unless anything else comes up that really works I think I want to stay with Slick/Slicks as the name.

Here is the box template below. The lid is designed to look like an eye peering at you when you open it. :)

Better to choose a name that will resonate with your audience.  The word "Slicks" doesn't even come close to evoking what you've created here.  I'm also wagering that Randy's not the only person to make the "slick/oil" mental connection, despite it being inaccurate.  A name can make or break a product.

'Contour' is on the table. I'll give it some thought

The colors and lines remind me of blueprints or schematics... just saying.

I see blue prints also when I look it.  I like the art, I like the name slicks also but it doesn't match the deck, it's confusing and turns me off as a consumer.

I've decided to change the name to 'Contours' now. I do get the blue print resemblance but I'm not gonna make it as a theme

I really like this deck, especially the royalty. Any pics of the ace of spades (or the jokers) yet?
