Grinders Playing Cards
By Randy Butterfield (Midnight Cards)

Hey Everyone,

My latest personal design is almost ready, so I thought it was time to get a thread going for it. The Grinders Deck is my T11-style design. Printing will be through Legends. The Tuck Box will utilize Black matte stock and the Tuck designs will be in Copper AND Silver Foils.

The semi-custom Courts are based from a more old-school set from Legends, with plenty of extra design elements I've added in! One Deck, NO special, limited, rare, seal sticker or handmade variations.

For those that don't know the Poker definition for a Grinder (for those that haven't seen the spectacular Poker movie, Rounders) - A grinder is a poker player who plays tight, low-risk poker with the intention of making a small but steady profit. Simply speaking, they "grind" away until reaching their goal. Grinders tend to shy away from both making aggressive moves and combating aggressive opponents in favor of making the safe play. Unlike most players who look to make as much money from each individual hand as possible, grinders are comfortable with winning small pots and rarely, if ever, play for high stakes.

The Kickstarter will be launching sometime in September!

Thanks, Randy

These look AWESOME.  Please, please, please tell me you're going to offer a second color!  What's a deck about a poker personality without having a complementary version in a different color?  Gotta have the pair!  It's great to forgo all the fancy stuff, the limited, numbered, foiled, embossed, etc. stuff - but you gotta make a poker pair!

  • Charm gets you quite far. Guile gets you the rest.
Love what you have here, I can't wait to get my hands on this, and have no doubts I will.

Want to second Don's comment, big fan of the colored pair on non art-centric decks. A nice teal or rich moss color would compliment this deck nicely.

Kickstarter completely revolutionized the way I waste money.

The people who handle playing cards are always in a world of delicate fingertip technology.

WITH identical art and color schemes on the faces, please!  Nothing ruins a poker pair like having different faces on the decks!

This I brilliant!

Love the tuck, love the back design, and love the way the use of the colour on the backs and the faces! The way the colour has been used does kind of remind me of the Ornates... but yet, the deck/design I totally different, and so there's no question of the Grinders being considered to be a clone of any sort. I think you've totally nailed it Randy. I'll definitely be in for these.

I'm in agreement with Don about a second colour. For an awesome design like this, it would be criminal not to have a second colour!! At least consider it as a stretch goal man.

I'd personally like to see a blue version.

By the way, which LPCC stock/finish will be utilised for this deck? *EDIT: I took a closer look at the image showing the tuck, and I noticed that at does say Classic Finish on the bottom of the tuck*

With this signature I'm following the example set by Fes: There is only ONE letter L in my display name. "Holly" is a female name... and I'm a bearded guy who's into weightlifting. There's nothing feminine about me brother!

The Grinders Kickstarter will be launching Tomorrow at Noon EDT!!

There is a chance for a second Deck (details are in the project page), but I wanted to keep this campaign as simple as possible. After the craziness of 3 Bowling Decks, Wooden Nickels, Uncuts and Bowling Pins between 2 separate KS projects, I needed to make sure this project was streamlined (for my sanity!).

thanks, Randy

Thanks Fes!!

The Grinders KS campaign will consist of only 3 elements - the Deck, an Antique Copper Finish Coin, and a custom Brick Box. The Brick Box will use the same Black matte stock, Copper Foil AND Silver Foil as the Deck itself! Even with a double Foil Brick Box, the price of the Brick tiers are very affordable.

- thanks, Randy

This gorgeous deck is about to fund! If you're on the fence over this one, don't be on the fence haha. Become a backer!

If you're interested in this new offering from Midnight Cards and the new campaign by Vanda. There is a cross campaign thing going on. Backers of each campaign over something like 25 clams, or two decks maybe, are going to get a couple custom checks, chips, card guards, call them what you like. One from Grinders and one from Duel. I think it's a pretty nice bonus!

Every deck I've picked up by Randy Butterfield has turned out better than anticipated. You can absolutely pledge with confidence on Grinders.

I have to agree with Fes. I've not been disappointed with any of Randy's decks. If you're not backing this-you should be. $25US/$29Int for 2 decks delivered. That's a bargain for KS projects.

Wait, what happened to the original Grinders campaign?  Those looked awesome - as do these.

Brick box was the issue I think. Now there are half brick boxes instead, fully printed paper half brick boxes, giving more availability to backers who don't necessarily need a full brick. As another added bonus, haha, fantastic Holo Golds! The Copper Grinders have their awesomeness intact and remain unchanged. :))

I think this is an insanely good campaign. Copper Grinders are already going to be Limited edition, Holo Golds are super Limited edition, Foil half brick boxes. It's easily one of the best we've seen this year on KS and the prices are great in my opinion. Naturally I went bonkers here haha.

Didn't Randy originally intend for this to be a single, stand-alone deck? And now there's three different versions?

In a way, yes. The Blue Deck was always my secret stretch goal item since the original campaign - always meant to be the Poker Pair for the Copper Deck.

I just had to play the Limited game to get there! The White Gold Deck is the item that wasn't planned for the first campaign (and switching the custom Brick Box to a custom 6-Pack Box).

Thanks, Randy
