For a change, I don't mind the different pips in this deck. They blend exceptionally well with the theme and are highly distinctive shapes while in at least some cases are close enough to older suits as to be recognizable. The
sakura (cherry blossom) is heart-shaped, the yen coins are similar to the Coins in a tarot deck (which evolved from the diamonds suit) and the two black suits are very similar to their Spanish-deck counterparts, the sword and the club. Suggestion - yen coins have a square hole in the center, and a square turned 45 degrees looks just like a diamond; you could tweak the design to give that suit more of a reminder of its French-suit counterpart.
The art rocks, though I'd prefer a "Q" that looks a little more like a "Q" in the Queen indices. I really like the wide frames on the court cards being faint and in the background, allowing the art to seemingly burst off the cards.
I wish you luck with this one. It's making me wary of launching around the same time with the Renaissance deck!
