Found this in an old USPCC publication.  Anyone know if the two riders are supposed to represent anyone in particular?

Hi Chuqii,

I think that the rider on the left represents in theory the King (fatter than the other) and the one situated in the right is probably the Jack. However, I don't think that they represent real people or a manufacturer of the USPCC. I found the same picture on an antique envelope recently.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
If you look at the crowns, you can tell that the right one's a Jack, as Chuqii said, and the left one's a King.

It's a cool illustration, probably only ever used on stationery or perhaps advertising, I'd guess.

I found mine in my somewhat battered 1897 version of "Card Games and How to Play Them" by US Printing Card Co.

Quite typical of USPC ads at that time - the height of bicycle mania. envelopes, letterheads, etc are precious - as are the Card Games books mentioned by Chuqii
