  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

This is a non-question, for people who choose the right girl-/boyfriend.

My girlfriend and I love each other very much, and she's extremely supportive of my magic and my playing card collection.  She wishes my playing card collection was smaller, to be sure, but she's always there for me when it comes to doing things magic-related.  We were at a birthday party earlier this evening and shortly after we got in the door I was performing for my friends and showing off some recent tricks.  All the while, she enjoyed the company of the women around her and kept her eyes on me as I entertained.  I looked her way and blew her a kiss a couple of times during my routines.

But I did take note of when to put the decks away and spend time with the woman I love.  The simple fact is that I WANT to spend time with her.

I've talked of opening a magic shop not far from where I used to live because the area is totally underserved, not a single magic shop - the closest ones worth seeing would be in Manhattan, and with traffic and parking hassles it can be a difficult trip for some.  She's supportive of the idea, though she doesn't want me quitting my regular job when the time comes to open such a shop.  She's even going to be helping in an administrative role - she graduated with two college degrees, one in business management.

I'll be back in her arms within three hours of me posting this message.  It's not soon enough!

lol i love my gf very much too and she's really supportive of my magic trick / card collecting too. Honestly though she always jokes about how i put magic before her though and ive watched a lot of magic shows and its funny that the wife/partner always says the same thing so i felt more like a magician when she said that to me the first time lol

Yeah, well don't leave her feeling like that on a regular basis or she's likely to become your ex...

My wife supports me in what I do. I need not make a decision here. As said above, it is a non-question 8)

I don't think your girlfriend would stick around very long in that case, unless she was extremely interested in magic as well.

I just chose the GF option because to me social life is more valued than recreation. Sure it's cool, but I would feel a lot more lonely if I had no friends than if I had no cards.

I mentioned to my mother and brother last week that I was going to start collecting cards. My brother gave a bit of a dismissive "look at this idiot" laugh but my mom supported me. I fear she might change her mind, though.

What's interesting about my brother's case is that he used to be into magic when he was a teenager. Guess he thinks it's silly for me to get into it NOW.

Few magicians ever go anywhere without at least one deck of cards.  I usually have two - one with a one-way back (or sometimes something almost totally ungaffed aside from a reveal or two) and one stripper deck.  I could fire off a good half-dozen-plus tricks with just those two in my pockets, maybe even close to a dozen.

I just chose the GF option because to me social life is more valued than recreation. Sure it's cool, but I would feel a lot more lonely if I had no friends than if I had no cards.

Now here's a person with some perspective!  :)  Just don't forget that sometimes you can make friends because of the cards and your skill with them!

I'm just keeping tabs on this thread waiting to see what Alex says haha.

Now that, I want to see!  You could sell tickets to that one!   ;)
