I decided to open up a Yellow Game of Death Deck.
and unlike the original red versions, These Do not fan at all, and also seems to stick in clumps when I Pulled them out.

Stack of 52 cards also was 4-5 cards thicker than the red version
There doesn't seem to be much finish to this.

Doesn't seem like a counterfeit. but I can not find any reviews online on this.

Anyone open these, can let me know their experience?'
Thanks

This deck sounds very familiar to me. Given that I am quite possibly the worlds worst collector and the sheer size of that collection now... A photo would sure help jog my memory of this deck. ;)

Edit: Actually thinking real hard to why it sounds familiar but I can't place it is because I only have experience with the Fulton's Casino decks. I don't have any Fulton's Chinatown, sorry I can't help out with this one.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Well, to my memory, this as well as pretty close to all D&D decks are made by USPC - I actually can't think of any examples that weren't off the top of my head.

USPC had most of the kinks worked out at the new plant by the time this deck was made, but it's possible for an occasional clunker to get through QC in terms of the glide characteristics.  "Finish" is a reference to the card's TEXTURE, not its COATING, so to say that the cards don't have much finish is to call them nearly smooth.  Are they nearly smooth?

Another factor that can adversely affect cards is how they've been stored.  If the deck isn't kept within a decent range of humidity and temperature, it can adversely affect how it handles - clumping like what you're showing is indeed possible.

I can't recommend or disavow this, but I have heard of people trying to improve their deck's handling by putting them in a freezer for a short while.  If you attempt this, I'd put them in an airtight bag first, so they're not making direct contact with any of the freezer's interior surfaces, and I wouldn't put them in for terribly long - maybe an hour, tops.  (If anyone out there has more experience than my "none" at this method of deck performance restoration, please chime in!)

My bad,  , i ment coat, not finish,   there doesnt seem much coating, surface feels rougher, grittier, thus stickier
Even if i abuse bikes, surface area feels smooth even if they no longer fan

The decks was out of the box like that.

i remember angelback squeezers, hertiage v1 series, was similar

Don may be on to something with how they were stored, not necessarily from your end, maybe from where they came from. Or a clunker, I gave these a few dribbles and cuts and got this out of them so I don't think its a normal tendency of the deck.

yea i believe I got a clunker,
i dont know how a "sealed" pack even placed in somewhat bad conditions would cause this.
i have placed a pack of cards in the bathroom, where hot showers takes place, without a tuck,
yea it gets very clumpy, soft, and deforms, but Still fans better.
but then when it dries,  its  Starts to  fanning nicely.

Basically if I pressed the card between 2 fingers, it tends to stick on one finger much longer time than usual,
it just feels like the coat is lacking or stickier.

You likely did get a clunker and that's unfortunate. Sealed isn't quite as sealed as we'd all like or hope. While the cello and box do create a kind of micro climate for the cards in the box to a certain extent it can be all for naught by one simple thing. Heat!

I'm not talking about being held over an open flame, burned up kind of heat. Prolonged exposure to heat in general can effect playing cards in some pretty negative ways. While you have cared for your decks and have kept them protected, they could have been exposed to high heat for a week or so in transit or storage before you became the decks custodian. Sometimes that is all it takes. I'm a desert dweller, I've experienced this first hand on more than one occasion. Interestingly enough what Don suggested can actually help out, couple steps left off though put the deck in a humidor for 24 hours before the freezer. Remove from the freezer put it into a crisper tray in the refrigerator for a day then straight into a decent card clip or clamp over night. Crazy and takes a few days but it can help!

Place a glob of solidified virgin coconut oil on a plate.  Microwave it to a hot-enough temperature, it melts.  Take an identical amount of the same solidified oil, seal it in an airtight container and microwave it to the same temperature.  It still melts.

Heat can affect the coatings used in much the same way that heat can affect certain types of paints, oils, etc.  This can be especially true of USPC's coatings now because they're required by law to use eco-friendly materials - their coatings are starch-based.
