so then it's hipster to not have a seal for now :)

It would probably be more hipster if they got decks designed in the style of 19th-century antebellum decks - wrapped in paper with a wax seal, no jokers or indices, etc.  :))

It's hugely funny to see people go so far out of their way to look like they stepped out of a time machine from 150 years ago, but to also be so ridiculously connected to the latest in technology that they give off their own electromagnetic field...  If it was steampunk, that would be one thing, but it's not!

HolyJJ - that find ROCKS.

You talking about the Bund18 set? I know that these decks are hard to come by, but i didn't know they were highly sought after (or ROCKING!), since not much chatter about this deck has been going around. I got a set with a help from a friend (more acquaintance actually) in Hong Kong.

Also, i've never seen the reprint of NOC V3s with the EPCC seal, nor the Legends Hipster.
Man...i must b lagging behind somewhere a lot....

Thanks Don, and Fes :D

If the Bund18 decks were easier to get hold of, I'd definitely have opened a pack... but seeing as the only way I can get another one is to spend $300 on eBay, I'll have to leave the decks sealed. Lol.

Purplelce, you can find the Legends Hipsters over at LPCC's site via the following link: ‎http://legendsplayingcards.com/products/hipster

Picked up these two from Lee Asher's online store:

The Fournier 605s, everybody knows about their quality. Therefore, no need for me to write an essay about them. Bottom line is this: they have their own unique handling -- like nothing else out there. I do recommend trying them out.

The Ascal deck... I've not really seen them mentioned here since Feb 2013.

To cut a long story (relatively) short, the cards stock on the Ascal deck is what makes it pretty awesome -- really nice and springy. I don't like overly soft/spongey feeling cards (like the original Madison Rounders)... and these cards are definitely *not* spongey!

They aren't as stiff as the Diamond Finish and Master Finish cards from LPCC and EPCC... and so those whose fingers aren't yet trained to handle those cards would probably find the Ascal cards easier to get used to.

They're very durable, and they're traditionally cut -- they handle much better than old USPCC casino decks. The cards faro beautifully.

The only minus side to them is that the coating isn't particularly slick... and so if you're going to do push-through false shuffles, you'll probably struggle as the coating breaks down even further. However, this is a casino deck and not a magic performance or cardistry... and therefore, one can easily make the point that the cards fully serve their purpose -- the shuffle well, and withstand a battering through play.

I'll definitely order some more of these.‎ Thanks Lee! :D
With this signature I'm following the example set by Fes: There is only ONE letter L in my display name. "Holly" is a female name... and I'm a bearded guy who's into weightlifting. There's nothing feminine about me brother!

The finish doesn't really determine the stiffness of the card - except when you're talking about smooth versus embossed.  The embossing process used today presses little metal points into the paper.  My theory is that it weakens the structural integrity just a bit - not enough to be completely destroyed, but just enough to make them less stiff than an identical card with a smooth finish.  If you don't believe me, check out the old Bee Erdnase decks that CARC used to sell - get a matched pair in Ivory and Cambric Finishes and you'll see immediately.

The Ascals are from the Angel Playing Card Company of Osaka, Japan.  You should try out some of the "Club Angel" brand as well as the Ascals.  They're not so expensive in Japan, though I'm betting that's not the case anywhere else!  Angel PCC does good work - as I hear it, they supply a lot of the casinos in the Pacific Rim and Australia (don't know if New Zealand has casino gambling with playing cards).

VERY Jealous of the V1s, great get!
Kickstarter completely revolutionized the way I waste money.

The people who handle playing cards are always in a world of delicate fingertip technology.

Thank you! I was searching for these forever, and finally found a great deal (so I bought them all  ;D).

Honestly Don, I'm not sure. College and textbooks are a thing, as well as a new engine for my car (probably just a new car) , so that is where my money is mainly going. I found this opportunity to make this purchase and decided to splurge.

That in mind however, I'm planning on possibly designing a deck of cards this summer with one of my buddies, with the hopes of getting it backed on Kickstarter.

Will it come to fruition? Most likely not.

1) You don't have to buy the latest and greatest decks to be part of the conversation.
2) Never say never - that deck may yet come to fruition.

1) Yeah I know, but the more time I spend on here, the more money I want to spend. I still have an issue with self control which is why I stopped cold turkey  :karrit:

2) It's just that my plans with stuff like this always get pushed back and never completed. Also, the deck I want to make is very simple and I wanted to make it look like a vintage Jerry-esque deck of cards, and I feel like a deck that simple would never get a ton of funding on Kickstarter due to the thousands of other minimalist and simplistic decks.

,,,most of which were utter crap!

Oi!  You've seen me say this before on this very site, perhaps in different words.  You don't have to be the first to the party, you just have to be the best - or at the least, the best to date - and you'll get all the attention!

If you don't go for it full-bore with all the passion you can muster, then of course you'll fail.  Get rid of the negatives running around in your brain and PUSH this idea - then, you WILL succeed.  It's far from impossible.  I've seen decks I wouldn't use to scrape off the bottom of my shoe get funded - what's stopping you from doing better?  (The answer?  Just you, my friend, just you...)

So, have I got your attention now?  :))  It sounds stupid and corny, but build it and they will come - as long as you can make it balls-to-the-wall better than the "minimalist" nonsense that came before it.

On Don's point about designing your own deck - I've noticed that the people who listen to the advice doled about by the many collectors and deck designers on this site generally have successful KS campaigns (not guaranteed but good percentage)...they also can clue you in on potential pitfalls in production and distribution.  So if you're ok with it and ready to get kicked off the horse (and most importantly have the chutzpah to jump back on), do it!
Starting to get better...have to stay dedicated...can't lose any more cards in the middle of a trick.  Literally, completely lost a card.

On top of that I think you will need to have a clear mindset of what you want to create. Have a theme in mind and start creating, absorbing the advises given to improves further than you can imagine  :D

Loldudex2, you should know by now that there probably has never been a time prior to now where it was as easy to create and produce a deck of playing cards.  Between high-quality boutique print shops putting USPC on notice and Kickstarter becoming a breeding ground for new artists and designs, the barrier to entry of the playing card market becomes lower almost by the minute.

Just for gits and shiggles, go check out Kickstarter and do a search for "Exploding Kittens" - go on, I dare you...

It's a custom deck, sure - but it earned nearly $8.8 MILLION dollars...

Thanks for all the support guys, it really means a lot!

Also, I almost backed Exploding Kittens but sadly forgot to. Oh well.

This summer my friend and I will see what we can do to try to make a deck of cards everyone will love!

Whoah, that's CRAZY. I'm glad to know left a legacy somewhere in my life :P

Yes, it's crazy!

I bet if you kept an eye on ExplodingKittens.com, there's going to be an order page or something - you'd just miss the KS exclusives and pricing.  There's no way they're letting an $8+ million dollar idea just end after one campaign.  I can see game companies dueling to the death for the rights...

Part of my Collection updated infrequently but occasionally, when I remember. (I haven't in months.)

Love the Limited Edition Draconians!

Although they look cool in photos, I'm sure you'll agree that the holographic seal looks infinitely better in person.

along with the Primavera and Seronda that I missed in 2012.
