Very very nice kd .. R those the sample decks?

Top row: promotional deck that USPC Custom gives away to potential clients.

Second row: Bicycle "Tall Stacks" - commemorates something to do with ye olde steamships...

Third row: all four test versions of the David Blaine Bicycle magic decks - they're all non-standard gaffed decks, either stripper, Svengali or marked.

Fourth row: the new Fulton's October deck.  Would have preferred Oktoberfest, but you take what you can get.

  • Kickstarter:
5 vintage decks. At least one of them printed in Denmark, but all of them are most likely printed in Denmark, I guess. Two of the 5 decks have tuck boxes. Now, I'm not experienced with vintage decks and I'm not at all experienced when it comes to dating the decks... but the Plastic Coated Vienna Playing Cards has a tax stamp on top. I did some research and found out, that the stamp used was used in 1949-1963. There's no text on the jokers or the AoS to help clarify the year of production.

The other deck with box is called Holmblades Billeder or maybe just Holmblades No. 121. Found these on this website: http://www.wopc.co.uk/waddingtons/holmblads-121.html but there are some stuff, that is not consistens between the websites description and my deck. First of, the Jack of Clubs does not have the text "S. Salomon & Co., Copenhagen - Holmblads Spillekort-Forretning" but simply "Holmblads Spillekort-Forretning".
Second, the tuck box does not say anything on the side about being made in England. Both sides are identical and says "Holmblads Spillekort-Forretning (S. Salomon & C9) Kjøbenhavn". Makes me wonder if these cards was made in Denmark or England at the time.
But I'm pleased about these decks, gotta say  :D

If anyone's interested, then I got some pictures of the cards here: https://picasaweb.google.com/110292178922219408904/VintagePlayingCards?authuser=0&feat=directlink

Very nice BastionBJ, nice pics too. I'm still in the research stage of "Vintage" cards. I would love to add some to my collection in time.

Just judging from the style of the pips, I'd say none of the decks are English - the pips are "Parisian" in style rather than "Rouen", and it was the Rouen style that the British cribbed from to create what's now known as "Anglo-American" style playing cards.

Ah comic books, we seem to have something else in common, lol I'm a Michael Turner geek, love his work.

Any who, I had these a little lower on my list, I'm trying to pick up some specific decks as best I can right out of the gate, but I got a great price on them so I couldn't resist.

Slowly but surely the collection grows, trying to avoid the impulse purchases, it's only been a month but I already find myself asking why I bought a couple things, lol

The list would be much shorter if you just wrote down what you DON'T want, right?  :))  We know...we know...

BTW: It's called the Charity: Water deck from Theory11.  The back is very interesting, consisting of a bunch of cute yellow jerry cans in neat little diagonal rows...

They are.  It's become the stuff of legends and fairy tales that there's supposed to be a new deck collaboration from Alex Chin (this deck's designer) and Ellusionist, but that's been in the rumor mill for months - I think it was ground up by the mill and converted to pixie dust by now...

I have the Jill Deck, ordered from the artist's website - they're getting tougher to find.  Card Shark sold out of it a while back, never made more.

It's a shame you're not going to open it - while the performance of the finish isn't the greatest, it is one of the more attractive MARKED decks out there...
