New vintage bee deck I added to my collection
Sweet! Do you have an approximate age? That tax stamp was in use between 1940 and 1965.
I knew about the tax stamp being used during that time. But I am not anywhere near an expert in the vintage area. I'll do some digging and see if I can find any more info, see if I can get a more precise date from any indications on the tuck
You can tell from subtle differences in box designs over the years, and possibly from the cancellation on the stamp itself, if it's clear enough to read. There's a woman in 52+Joker who could write the book on the subject of playing card tax stamps (in fact, I think she DID write a book on it)!
That's very cool Curt, Gratz! I gotta learn a bit more about vintage decks.
52 Plus Joker is an excellent place to start. They have a quarterly journal called "Clear the Decks" that's a wealth of information on anything playing cards, most of it being vintage until recently. They're making efforts to expand the membership and reach out to younger collectors who are following the current custom deck wave. It's $25/year - 52plusjoker.org is their site.
CtD is also available as part of CARC's Ask Alexander database, but membership there is a bit more costly and aimed more at the professional magician or cardist. It does, however, entitle you to all the member discounts and getting first crack at CARC releases.
