So I was curious about the combination of magic finish on a deck with no dimpling on it and lo and behold, no one has ever requested that combination before.

That means no samples to see if the cards would handle right. Now, as some of you may know, I was planning on using this combination in an alternative deck in the future.

As of now, to try this out, it means printing a whole run of cards with those features. Since their standard coating + smooth finish works great, I would imagine magic-finish coating works even better.

Is it a risk worth taking? What do you guys think? I personally adore a smooth finish deck - there is nothing like one for cuts and many sleights. Please reply with why you would or would not want to own a deck with this feature.

I love both the smooth and magic finish. My only concern would be is it even possible? And if you mean a regular print run, would it be worth it to perhaps waste thousands if the combination doesn't work out.

I agree! This could be a chance to be innovative and push the future of the card designing world.

YES PLEASE!!! i think it would see simply because it would be the first to use that combination. I know that i would get at least a brick probably two because i mainly do cardistry and smooth finish cards are the best for cuts.
have you heard the word???

It's a bit of a risk going for somthing like that on a whole run of cards, isn't there a way you could just get a prototype with that finish/stock and see how they handle?

Just go for it, you have nothing to lose if it's just a single deck.

@VortexHead - You can get it without doing a whole run, but it will be very expensive to get one deck than if you were to get a few thousand.

The prototype decks you can get from USPCC are not "real" in the sense of being printed on the presses. Instead they are done by hand on a special cmyk printer. I'm pretty sure those prototype decks have no real finish coating. Because of that, I think the only way you could get the real thing would be do a small run, and even the smallest runs are many, many decks.

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work but is the info on exactly what the magic coating is available?  Like, might it depend on the dimples to perform as it does or something like that?

Maybe you could ask VERY nicely if they could put a smooth finish deck in a stack of uncuts that will get magic finish, and ask I they could send you the deck. I know it'd be very improbable but doesn't hurt to ask.

This combination seems like it would go very well. Sometimes in life you have to take risks, Spend money to make money the only way.

Is it possible to get the Magic Finish in the "Customizable Deck" offer?  That's a much smaller print run - the individual decks will cost more, but the overall order can cost hundreds if not thousands less.  I say ask - worst thing that could happen is they'd say no.

I Would love to try out some even though I'm not really a fan of the smooth finish! It'll be awesome to see a smooth finish custom deck so that smooth finish lovers can have more choices!

This sounds like a pretty interesting idea. I'd love to try out a deck with this combination.

I saw go for it, either it works well and more decks use it or it does not and the pepole who buy it own the 1st and possibly only one with it.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

Yeah, that's true. The amount of money involved makes this idea pretty risky.
